Scilly flowers on board HMS Ocean!
A few weeks ago a customer popped in to see us at the farm office and had a rather unusual request. Carol Clements has been holidaying on Scilly for many years with her family and wanted to send her daughter something a little special from the islands for her Birthday. However her daughter is a Lieutenant Colonel currently serving on board the HMS Ocean!
Our first reaction was that we couldn’t possibly send flowers to war zone let alone a ship; it isn’t exactly on the postman’s usual round! After a gentle persuading we agreed to sell Mrs Clements a box of our scented pinks for her to take to the post office to send herself at her own risk.
We were amazed today when Mrs Clements turned up at the farm to say that although the flowers took 8 days in transit they did arrive with her daughter causing her to shed a tear! It is certainly the longest distance our flowers have ever travelled and apparently the first time flowers have ever reached a ship! We were told even the men have commented on the wonderful scent on board!
