St. Martin's fireworks display- better late than never!
Despite predictions of strong gales, St. Martin’s firework display went off with a big bang this weekend!
The building of the bonfire begins in October when islanders take the opportunity to get rid of unwanted, burnable items. However on the island we tend to celebrate Guy Fawkes Night later because November 5th falls in the school holidays when most families choose to take their delayed summer holidays.
This year we were only a week behind the mainland with our celebrations when all of the children were here to enjoy the bonfire and fireworks! A record £470 was raised and we all enjoyed a fantastic display! Of course it was made all the more enjoyable by the treats and nibbles everyone brought to share!
