Last week the 2nd annual Walk Scilly festival took place building on success of last year’s event with even more walkers strolling across the islands. The seven day festival saw a series of themed guided walks taking place throughout Scilly. Churchtown Farm took part by sponsoring and providing guides for a walk on the history of flower farming and also one of the most popular walks of the week, which saw 80 people walking (in several different routes!) the whole length of St Martin’s.
Over the week there were a wide variety of local experts leading over 20 walks, on topics such as archaeology and gardens, flora and fauna, castles and cliffs, beaches and birds, bats and boats.
The walking festival is an excellent way to enjoy the islands and gives you and chance to really explore with the help of some local knowledge. As well as the walks there were evening events held through out the week, talks, presentations and dinners.
Springtime is a lovely time to visit, with golden fields of narcissi still in flower. Witness the immense power of the Atlantic on an exhilarating clifftop walk or wonder at the vivid colours evident on many Island beaches and coves.
