Iris for the spring
We are continually trying to have more Scilly grown flowers to send for you. In the past there were a few months a year, between our two main crops of scented narcissi and scented pinks, when we had no Scilly flowers. A few years ago we reached the point where every week of the year we were able to send Scilly grown flowers but that didn’t mean we had enough to meet demand. We fill the gaps first by sourcing only top quality flowers from Cornwall, then the rest of the UK and then by bringing in flowers via the Dutch wholesale markets. Don't worry, we always make it clear in the description of the flowers where they have come from. We currently don't grow enough flowers once the narcissi season has finished at Easter until late May when we start picking pinks and in the late summer for about four weeks. When we started using a wider range of flowers our motivation was solely that we wanted to have more Scilly grown flowers, it is after all, 'what it says on the tin'! but Brexit has added another incentive. The cost and difficulty of importing flowers has increased hand over fist. We have tinkered over the last few years with growing iris and we felt we had (fingers very much crossed) learnt enough to invest in significantly more bulbs this year. The iris bulbs are now safely in the ground and only time will tell. If you get an email from us in the spring with a special offer on iris you'll know it's been a screaming success!
